How often do you know admire the value of anything you’re given and blessed with? Most often, we tend to take precious things for granted.
Here’s a picture that speaks a thousand words of the value, true beauty and the real tragedy of India. The girl is a rural ragamuffin. Disheveled and grubby. Proud enough of her femininity to wear bangles. And heart-achingly gorgeous even at that innocent age. With chocolate brown skin, dimples, and perfectly symmetrical features that would have taken the photographer’s breath away. She’s smiling, but it’s a wistful smile that does not reach her eyes. The smile speaks of poverty. Of hardship at an early age. And forced labor. All have robbed the girl of her childhood. There’s also a sadness in her eyes that is haunting. At her age, she ought to have been in school. Or playing with dolls at home. Instead, look at what she’s doing.
Womenfolk in India
The tragedy of India is that womenfolk, especially the girl child, are treated as inferior, second-class citizens. There’s no equality among the sexes no matter how hard the government tries to tom-tom its Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme. What school life and education will this girl have if she has to carry pots of water every day to her home? Imagine what other tasks she must be put to. In rural areas and in slums, only the womenfolk experience the burden of carrying water. This is usually from the village well. A community tap. Or from a nearby river. You see a woman with a pot on her head, which means tap water has not yet reached her home. You see a man with a pot of water on his head, call me, I will take his picture. But this girl knows the value of every single drop of water.
FInally, know the value of every little thing. From the tiniest atom to the skies you are blessed with.

Stories are the best way to communicate. If you want to know a person, know their story. You will understand the person, rather than going by the gestures and the dressing sense.
