Don’t get rid of your fridge – yet!

I’ve resisted the temptation of ordering the quality fruits and fresh vegetables that Dunzo Daily promises to deliver to my door in 19 minutes. Only because Dunzo’s ads on TV and in print put me off. They show a hospital ICU with a grave-faced doctor stepping out to inform a weeping couple that their fridge, yes – the fridge, has not survived. And they show a funeral parlour with a grieving family in white and lying there garlanded and ready for the pyre, is the family fridge. They also show a sweating jaripuranawala struggling to pedal his tricycle which is burdened by several no-longer-required fridges.

I don’t know who the ad filmmaker of this utterly ridiculous chicanery is, but I’d say he’s lost the plot. Fridge brands like Samsung, Whirlpool, LG, Godrej, Haier, Videocon, Panasonic, and Bosch should sue the crackpot. I get it that they’re telling me with Dunzo Daily I can enjoy the best groceries and therefore have no further use for my fridge. And that Dunzo Daily is an all-in-one online supermarket whose delivery record is 19 minutes. I wonder why the copywriter chose 19 minutes. It will take more than that. My Chinese takeaway uses Dunzo and every time I order I have to direct the twit of a delivery boy to my home.

Even if the copywriter is right, and with Dunzo Daily who needs a fridge for fruits and veggies, what if I feel peckish at 2 am? Will they deliver? And what about cold water and ice cubes? Also, what do I do with the South African wine, Lisbon port, Belgian chocolate, French cheese, Turkish dates, Italian salami, Spanish sausages, English plum pudding, New Zealand foie gras, Cuban cigars, Dutch beer, Chinese sauces, Thai curry pastes, Irish liqueur, Scottish marmalade, California prunes, Ceylon tea, Jamaican coffee and Danish butter that’s in my fridge? Give it to the jaripuranawala? I doubt he’ll accept. He’s only taking fridges.
