Proud 5 women farming entrepreneurs of India

In India, gender plays a vital role when it comes to the profession. Farming is one such profession. They do join in the capacity of helping the male farmers but not as main farmers. However, with changing times there have been some massive level changes in the society especially when it comes to gender equality. It has also given rise to the tradition of women farmers. Here are a few Indian Women Farmer who have achieved a decent success and even bagged several awards due to their farming methods and encouraging results:

The Women Farmers of Medak- From landless laborers to leaders

When the oppressed finally rise after decades of exploitation, it is nothing short of a revolution. The same happened in the village of Medak. Once a landless labourer in Telangana the women finally united and fought natural and social challenges. They succeeded in getting the fullest potential out of their farming with the help of organic farming, rainwater-fed farms, and similar organic methods.

After solving their issues the group also wanted to extend its impact and today the group tours across rural areas of the Vidharba region to teach their skills to others. Never short of ideas, the group has also successfully found an organic and reliable way of seed preservations by creating a strategist layering of name leaves, dried grass, and some ash.

Atram Padma Bai: Failed to earn from a 3-acre farm, turned her attention to an innovative tool-lending concept

Not being able to earn a good income out of her three-acre cotton farm didn’t discourage Atram Padma Bai. Instead, she focused her attention on a new venture- renting out agricultural tools to the farmers at modest rates. The idea worked and today she is happy doing what she is doing. She lends them a wide variety of tools used for farming like sickle, wheelbarrows, spades, pickaxes, and hoes. She is today proudly working in the league of Indian Women Farmer.

Her entrepreneurial zeal and leadership qualities not only earned her respect but also added to her social status as well. She has assumed the role of Sarpanch in as many as 8 villages. Along with position comes responsibility and she is deftly fulfilling them. Right from getting government sanctions for ensuring easy access to clean water, she is also working towards building a reservoir for rainwater harvesting. Moreover, she is also instrumental in building some concrete roads as well.

Trinity Saioo- Bringing back the glory of traditional turmeric variety

Trinity Saioo is a bastion holder for bringing back the traditional turmeric variety of India. Equipped with a decent teaching experience it has never been difficult for trinity to pass her knowledge, ideas passion, and ambition on to others.  She isn’t cut off from rural women’s concerns too and helps them on how to avail subsidies and the right measure for multiplying their income.

Aparna Rajagopal- The farming “advocate”…literally

This woman is a unique entry in this post not only because she isn’t a rural woman but also because she is a law graduate! When Aparna decided to transform her barren land into fertile she undertook a massive task with lots of guesswork and doubts. But she was fully confident to achieve it. Aparna employed a blend of traditional farming and permaculture techniques for building what can be called an eco-friendly sustainable farm and an animal sanctuary. With the help of various social channels, she has multiplied her reach. Besides, she is also playing a vital role in empowering UP village by spreading awareness about sanitation, education, and healthcare.
