There is no greater love than Mum’s

When Berru Merve Kul, a visually impaired young Turkish girl, wished to study Law, the Sakarya University in Turkey shrugged its shoulders helplessly. It had no resources or the infrastructure, no reading material in Braille, or audio sources in libraries and computer rooms, to help the visually impaired. But Berru’s mother Havva Kul wanted her daughter to graduate. She stepped up to the task.

For four years of the Law course, striving to open more doors to a brighter future for her daughter, Havva attended every University lecture and took down notes of what was being taught in class. Then at home every night, after reading the notes and understanding them herself, Havva taught her daughter Law, helped her with the homework, and guided Berru through the four years of University.

At the graduation ceremony, there was a surprise. The Sakarya University awarded Berru with her graduation certificate after she deserved four years in college. Then to thunderous applause and tears from the students, it awarded Havva an honorary graduation Law certificate for her dedication and commitment to Berru’s education. The mother and daughter then threw their caps in the air to celebrate their graduation.

The heartwarming story was covered by BBC News. It was made viral on Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, and Instagram. Havva was declared the Mother of The Century. The University Law Dean Mahmut Bilen said, “There’s no way Havva could have done that without absorbing a whole lot of it. And that stuff is dense, it’s often a challenge just to read and comprehend, let alone analyze and interpret.” He forgot, there is no force stronger than a mother’s love.
