Motherhood can be beautiful, overwhelming, exhausting, joyful, and confusing, sometimes all on the same day. No matter how prepared a woman feels before becoming a mother, there are moments when she needs someone to talk to, someone who understands, and sometimes simply someone who says, “You are doing fine.”

That need for connection inspired Shalu Varadkar to create Mommies World (For U & Me), a community where mothers could support one another, exchange experiences, find encouragement, and build friendships.

What began as a Facebook group in 2015 grew into a community connecting thousands of mothers across different locations and backgrounds.

The Emotional Journey Into Motherhood

Becoming a mother is a major life transition. Pregnancy itself can bring physical and emotional challenges, while the arrival of a baby introduces an entirely new set of responsibilities.

Some women have relatively comfortable pregnancies. Others experience sickness, exhaustion, anxiety, or difficult deliveries. After childbirth, there can be sleepless nights, feeding concerns, household responsibilities, career questions, and the constant pressure of trying to do everything right.

During these moments, having someone who listens without judgement can make a significant difference.

That person might be your mother, sister, friend, partner, or another experienced parent. Sometimes, however, talking to someone outside your immediate circle can feel easier because there is less fear of judgement.

This was the space Shalu wanted to create.

How Mommies World Began

In April 2015, Shalu started the Mommies World (For U & Me) Facebook group with a simple intention: to help mothers support one another through the everyday challenges of motherhood.

The idea was based on something very human.

Mothers do not always need professional advice or complicated solutions. Sometimes, they need another mother who has experienced something similar and can simply say, “I have been through this too.”

The community was created around that sense of understanding.

A Personal Loss Inspired a Bigger Purpose

The story behind Mommies World became even more meaningful because of a deeply personal experience.

Just one month after giving birth to her son, Rushansh, Shalu lost her father.

She was experiencing one of the happiest and most transformative periods of her life while simultaneously dealing with profound grief.

That experience changed her perspective.

She began thinking about other mothers who might be going through difficult situations while trying to care for their children and families. She wanted to create a space where mothers could find encouragement during their difficult days.

Her personal grief became part of a larger purpose: helping other mothers feel less alone.

Mothers Supporting Mothers

Mommies World brought together mothers from different backgrounds and locations.

Members could share their experiences, ask questions, discuss parenting, exchange recommendations, and simply talk about their everyday lives.

The community’s strength came from its members.

One mother could share an experience that another mother was currently facing. Someone who had already navigated a particular parenting challenge could offer perspective to someone encountering it for the first time.

This created a cycle of support in which mothers were not simply receiving help. They were also helping others.

Taking the Community Beyond Facebook

Shalu did not limit the idea of community to social media.

Mommies World also organised workshops and offline gatherings where mothers could meet face-to-face, interact with like-minded people, and spend time away from their usual routines.

These gatherings created opportunities for friendships to develop beyond online conversations.

The group also introduced informal meetups such as Random Coffee Meets (RCM) and Rocking Mommies Meets (RMM-Lunch).

These events gave mothers an opportunity to talk about everything from parenting and relationships to work, hobbies, food, and everyday life.

Supporting Mompreneurs

Mommies World also became a platform for women who wanted to build businesses while managing their responsibilities as mothers.

Shalu encouraged mompreneurs, giving them opportunities to introduce their businesses to the community and receive suggestions and encouragement from fellow mothers.

For many women, having a supportive community can make the process of starting a business feel less intimidating.

The initiative showed that motherhood and ambition do not have to exist on opposite sides. A woman can be a mother while also pursuing professional goals, creative interests, or entrepreneurship.

Keeping Mothers Connected Throughout the Week

Mommies World developed regular activities to keep members engaged and connected.

The community’s schedule included:

  • Monday: Mann Ki Baat, giving mothers a space to express themselves.
  • Tuesday: Chat With Experts, featuring discussions around different topics.
  • Wednesday and Sunday: Opportunities to promote mompreneur businesses.
  • Thursday: Recommendations and suggestions.
  • Friday: Get Featured, highlighting members and their stories.
  • Saturday: Sizzling Dishes, where members could share food and recipes.

These activities gave mothers something to look forward to while creating regular opportunities for interaction.

More Than an Online Group

What makes a community meaningful is not the number of people in it but the relationships created within it.

Over time, Mommies World developed into more than a Facebook group. Mothers who initially knew nothing about one another began sharing experiences, celebrating milestones, offering encouragement, and building friendships.

For mothers living far away from their families, such communities can offer a valuable sense of connection.

The members may begin as strangers, but shared experiences can turn strangers into friends.

Shalu Varadkar: The Woman Behind Mommies World

Shalu Varadkar belongs to Jaipur and has professional experience in Events and Human Resources spanning almost two decades.

Alongside her professional career, she is a blogger, mother, wife, and the founder and managing administrator of Mommies World.

Her journey demonstrates how personal experiences can inspire meaningful community initiatives.

Rather than keeping her own struggles private, Shalu transformed a difficult period in her life into motivation to create a space where other mothers could find support.

A Community Built on Connection

Motherhood can sometimes feel isolating, particularly when responsibilities become overwhelming and there is little time for meaningful adult interaction.

Mommies World attempted to bridge that gap by creating opportunities for mothers to talk, meet, learn, laugh, support businesses, and share their experiences.

The idea is simple: mothers do not have to navigate every challenge alone.

Sometimes, the most valuable support comes from someone who has faced a similar situation and understands exactly how difficult it can feel.

Final Thoughts

Shalu Varadkar’s story is a reminder that meaningful change does not always begin with a large organisation or a complicated plan.

Sometimes, it begins with a mother recognising a need and deciding to do something about it.

Mommies World grew from that simple idea: mothers supporting mothers.

Through online conversations, workshops, meetups, business support, and shared experiences, the community created a space where women could connect beyond their everyday responsibilities.

Motherhood may be an individual journey, but it does not have to be a lonely one.

And sometimes, the right community can provide exactly the dose of motivation a mother needs.
