“Anything is possible if you have the mindset and the will to do it”.

My dear friends, I am glad to introduce you to Miss Universe Diversity- Naaz Joshi.

Naaz Joshi is India’s 1st transgender woman who is recognized as an International Beauty Queen and rewarded by six International Pageants. Furthermore, she is a proud mother of two children.

More about- Naaz Joshi

Naaz Joshi is a trans-rights activist and a motivational speaker. She won the Miss World Diversity beauty pageant three times in a row. Also, she is India’s first transgender cover model and happens to be the world’s first transsexual to win an international beauty pageant with Cisgender women.

Due to COVID-19, Miss Universe Diversity took place digitally. On this platform, Joshi competed with contestants from 30 countries, and this is her sixth international award for India.

From the various online tasks, Joshi opted for women’s safety and self-defense. For that, she educated women in rural areas about the importance of self-defense.

Moreover, Joshi was invited to TEDx at GLA University in Mathura to inspire people born with disabilities.

Naaz Joshi openly and fearlessly talks about her struggles, childhood times, and much more over this forum.

Her early struggles in life.

Naaz Joshi, born on 31st December 1984 was abandoned by her own family. She says, “My father never talked to me and my mother abused me because of my identity. My mother says I am a curse.”

Furthermore, Naaz Joshi states “ We can stand against verbal and physical abuse from anyone but it’s disheartening when it comes from your immediate family.” Also, she has been molested by many people including teachers, cousins, the general public, and her paternal uncle.

Continuation of life’s struggles – Glimpse into Joshi’s ongoing saga of life

“We all struggle with something and need help. Whatever it is that you can’t conquer on your own, I encourage you to give it to the Lord; He can fix anything”, says Naaz Joshi.

Naaz Joshi faced lots of obstacles in her life. In her childhood, she faced taunts from society and also from her own family. At that time, she started working to earn her living. She worked at dance bars and washed dishes in restaurants. Despite, all these, Naaz managed to complete her studies.

Joshi enrolled National Institute of Technology (NIFT) and completed her formal studies in fashion designing. Later, she completed her MBA in marketing from the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad.

Challenges & disappointments – Naaz Joshi’s tryst with destiny

Joshi says her biggest challenge has been funding herself for sex reassignment surgery. For that, she also worked as a sex worker. Despite her feminine behavior, Naaz Joshi has got so many rejections, she continues to work and raise her opinions.

Also, Joshi speaks about her issues of unemployment. Despite winning so many titles, she is not able to get a decent job. Being, a postgraduate she still has to beg because she is a transwoman.

Motivation & love of her life – Naaz Joshi

“No matter what storm you face, you need to know that God loves you. He has not abandoned you.”

Joshi says, “ I wanted to earn a crown so that people get to know about me and I have enough power to raise my opinions.” But unfortunately, Joshi lives a life of a commoner even after winning six crowns for India.

“God is my biggest support system in all those ups and downs. I tie Rakhi to Lord Krishna. Meditation and prayers to God have kept me going so far” Naaz Joshi says.

Naaz Joshi’s marriage was called off because she is a transwoman. A transgender in India is often subject to hatred and transphobia. Thereafter, she adopted two children and found her love in them.

Touching words by Naaz Joshi herself…

“I want people to accept us the way we are. Society should change its mindset regarding the word transgender. In schools, colleges, and on various other platforms public should be taught all are human beings are equal whether they belong to any community. Furthermore, she says transgender models should get modeling assignments. Also, Joshi says sex bias should stop and sex reassignment surgery to be free of cost.” – says Naaz Joshi.

At last, Naaz Joshi concludes, “ I want to become a celebrity so that I have the power to speak up for people’s rights. I want to open an orphanage for girls. But all that needs money and people’s support”.

Views as a story writer

As a storyteller, this story makes me feel numb. I have no words to express what I am feeling.

A woman who is transgender but still she got the talent in her. She has received awards and also she is well-educated.

Why?? Can’t we humans respect anyone!

Why?? She is judged because of her sexuality!

Why?? Taunting her for no reason!

Why?? Is that her mistake the way she is!

Why?? Facial feminization is important!

This story makes me go through so many questions. God created us, he never mentioned that trans people are not like us. In any holy book have you ever read anything like that? For God, everyone is the same and he loves all his children. It’s us, our society, some thoughts that made our mentality.

I am not against any rituals or beliefs, I intend to not hurt anyone reading this story. The only thing I am worried about is why people like them have to suffer. Miss Joshi is a super talented woman but because she is transgender nobody treats her like a human being.

Dear friends, I request all of you to kindly go through this story and think about it. Does a talented and skilled full person is of no use to our society? Everyone should be equally treated, despite being transgender. Read more about her on Wikipedia

Friends, we should keep supporting and motivating such talents in our society so that the discrimination one day becomes null. Lastly, I want to end this on a good note-  “The transgender community deserves the dignity and respect that most people take for granted.”

Stories are the best way to communicate. If you want to know a person, know their story. You will understand the person, rather than going by the gestures and the dressing sense.
