They ask,
“Why do you spend so much time alone?”

I smile and reply,
“Because I love being with the one who truly understands me.”

Not someone else.
Myself.

There comes a stage in life when you stop confusing noise with connection, crowds with companionship, and constant conversations with genuine understanding.

You realise:

You can be surrounded by hundreds and still feel unseen.
And you can sit alone in silence and feel completely understood.

Solitude stops being an absence.
It becomes a presence.

In that presence, you meet yourself—without an audience, without expectations, without the exhausting responsibility of pretending to be okay.

You ask the questions you kept postponing:

– What do I really want?
– What truly matters to me?
– What am I carrying that I no longer need?
– Who am I when I am not trying to impress anyone?

Uncomfortable? Yes.
Liberating? Absolutely.

Because sometimes, the questions that disturb us are the very questions that set us free.

So don’t fear when your circle shrinks.

Not everyone who leaves is a loss.

Sometimes, their absence creates the silence in which you finally find yourself.

You don’t need to collect people.

You need to become someone you yourself are comfortable being.

And when you truly understand yourself:

You stop begging to be understood.
You stop explaining your worth.
You stop needing a crowd to validate your existence.

You become peaceful.

You become selective.

You become courageous.

You become free.

The world may misunderstand you.

Some may judge you.

Some may walk away.

Let them.

Your responsibility is not to make everyone understand you.

Your responsibility is to never stop understanding yourself.

Sometimes, the most meaningful conversation of your life happens in silence—with the person looking back at you from the mirror.

Know that person.

Respect that person.

Forgive that person.

Stand by that person.

Because people may come and go.

Circumstances may change.

Life may take unexpected turns.

But wherever you go,
you will always have yourself.

So make yourself a beautiful place to return to.

And then, whether you are surrounded by a crowd or sitting quietly alone—

you will never truly be lonely.

Because when you have learned to enjoy your own presence,
solitude is no longer emptiness.

It is home.

About Lovely Basanthi

Some writers write to tell a story. Some write to make you pause and listen to the conversation within.

Lovely Basanthi is a reflective writer whose words often explore the quieter sides of being human — self-discovery, solitude, healing, relationships, resilience and the courage to keep becoming.

His writing has a simple yet powerful quality. He speaks directly to the reader, reminding them that solitude does not always mean loneliness, silence is not always strength, and rejection does not have to define our worth. Whether he is writing about happiness, inner conversations, karma or resilience, his message often comes back to one simple truth — growth begins when we stop running away from ourselves.

Lovely Basanthi’s writing invites us to slow down, look within and listen to the voice we often overlook — our own.
