At first, the statement sounds almost too obvious. Facts do not change because we dislike them, and life does not rearrange itself to satisfy our preferences. Yet much of our suffering comes from wishing reality were different from what it is.
We wish the rain would stop. We wish someone had said yes. We wish yesterday had unfolded differently. We wish a relationship had remained unchanged. We wish our bodies would never age.
Reality moves forward while the mind quietly protests:
“This should not have happened.”
Perhaps suffering begins there, not with pain itself, but with our resistance to what has already happened.
Life rarely follows our plans. People disappoint us. Opportunities disappear. Circumstances change. The future arrives looking nothing like the one we imagined.
We replay conversations, revisit mistakes, and mentally negotiate with events that are already over.
Regret cannot rewrite the past.
Anxiety cannot guarantee the future.
Resistance cannot undo a fact.
The fact remains.
The argument continues only within us.
See Before You Act
Acceptance is not resignation. It is not weakness, approval, or passivity.
It is simply the willingness to see what is true before deciding what to do.
If something is broken, repair it.
If harm has occurred, address it.
If a boundary is needed, establish it.
If a mistake was made, take responsibility.
But first, see.
Clear perception is the foundation of wise action.
The Story We Add
Someone does not return our call.
The fact is simple:
The call was not returned.
But the mind often continues:
“They don’t care.”
“They never cared.”
“I’m not important.”
One event becomes an entire story.
One moment becomes a judgment about our worth.
The original fact disappears beneath interpretation, fear, memory, and imagination.
So ask yourself:
What actually happened, and what am I adding to it?
That question creates space.
And in that space, choice becomes possible.
Learn to Navigate
Imagine standing beside a river and demanding that it flow in the opposite direction.
You can argue.
You can complain.
You can call it unfair.
The river continues flowing.
Life is much the same.
People make choices we dislike.
Time moves forward.
Circumstances unfold without consulting us.
We can fight the current, or we can learn to navigate it.
That is not surrender.
It is intelligence.
What Can We Learn?
Not every hardship carries a hidden blessing.
Pain is painful.
Loss is loss.
Disappointment hurts.
There is no need to romanticize suffering.
Yet once something has happened, we still have a choice about how we meet it.
Failure may reveal what needs improvement.
Conflict may reveal a missing boundary.
Disappointment may expose an attachment.
Loss may reveal the depth of love.
A painful experience may not have been chosen.
But the wisdom we draw from it can be.
What Now?
Once we stop fighting the fact of what happened, attention becomes available again.
Instead of asking:
“Why did this happen?”
we can ask:
“What now?”
I was hurt.
How shall I heal?
I made a mistake.
What can I learn?
Something changed.
How can I adapt?
Someone left.
How can I continue living fully?
We may not control what happened.
But we can choose what happens next.
That is where our power lives.
Stop Postponing Peace
Many of us make peace conditional.
“When life settles down, I’ll relax.”
“When I reach my goal, I’ll be happy.”
“When my problems disappear, I’ll enjoy life.”
But life rarely remains settled for long.
One challenge ends.
Another begins.
One uncertainty disappears.
Another arrives.
If peace depends on perfect circumstances, it will always remain somewhere in the future.
Perhaps peace begins much closer.
Here.
In this breath.
In this moment.
In meeting the life that is actually here.
The Inner Shift
When the inner argument softens, something changes.
Regret becomes understanding.
Worry becomes presence.
Resentment becomes courage.
Fear becomes wisdom.
The circumstances may remain unchanged, but we are no longer spending all our energy fighting them.
We become available for action.
For growth.
For gratitude.
For love.
For life.
Perhaps real freedom is not controlling what happens.
It is meeting what happens without abandoning ourselves.
To say:
This happened.
This is where I am.
I can still choose my next step.
Change what can be changed.
Release what cannot.
Learn from what has passed.
Continue walking.
Not because everything is perfect,
but because life never required perfection before it could be lived.
The Deepest Lesson
Reality has never needed to win an argument.
Reality simply is.
The rain falls.
People change.
Bodies age.
Plans shift.
Life continues.
Our task is not to defeat reality, but to meet it consciously, to see what is true and respond to it wisely.
And perhaps one day we discover something quietly astonishing:
We were never exhausted by life itself.
We were exhausted by resisting the life that was already here.
When that resistance softens, we stop spending our precious energy wishing the present were different.
We become available for what is actually possible:
To learn.
To act.
To love.
To begin again.
We do not need reality to obey us before we can live fully.
We only need the courage to see what is here, the wisdom to meet it, and the willingness to take the next step.
Perhaps that is where inner freedom begins.
About Lovely Basantwani

Some writers write to tell a story. Some write to make you pause and listen to the conversation within.
Lovely Basantwani is a reflective writer whose words often explore the quieter sides of being human — self-discovery, solitude, healing, relationships, resilience and the courage to keep becoming.
His writing has a simple yet powerful quality. He speaks directly to the reader, reminding them that solitude does not always mean loneliness, silence is not always strength, and rejection does not have to define our worth. Whether he is writing about happiness, inner conversations, karma or resilience, his message often comes back to one simple truth — growth begins when we stop running away from ourselves.
Lovely Basantwani’s writing invites us to slow down, look within and listen to the voice we often overlook — our own.
