The shadow lingering within my eyes remaining relatively still,
moving ever so reluctantly and suspiciously every now
and then, as if without intent to avoid
further scrutiny,
one who would rather not seek what would be defined as being
confrontational, but perhaps one on an explorative mission,
if that one were allowed to be so bold.
I tended to overlook her comings and goings and stealthily
movements I familiarised myself with long ago, although, at times
it became difficult to differentiate her shadowy shade or her
shape, for that matter,
remaining perfectly still. But only for a minute increment of time.
It seemed as if she were wanting to take a much-needed breath
before losing consciousness. Which occurred quite regularly,
determined, as she was, if she were found wanting to leave
the premises.
She was never known for wanting to seek approval, regarding
her strong-headedness, although never did she realize she had
always left bread crumbs, a tell-tale sign of her entrances
and exits…
Referring to the footprints she would leave behind.
Always I let it slip past her, being fully aware of her ploy, and she,
feeling she had pulled the wool over my eyes.
To have seen her impish grin and the look within her eyes when
she felt she had made, yet again, another masterful escape.
I remember her, feeling so insecure, lacking self-confidence and
self-esteem, being riddled with her anxieties and being
vulnerable, to a large extent,
precarious
and unguarded, as she attempted to get on with her life, while
taking little steps, if she ever did take a step…
Usually, she was too afraid to move from here to there, too
afraid to leave the sheltering of her darkened, shuttered room…
Always alone and aloof, fearing she would shatter and break,
regarding her porcelain appearance.
