A young couple moved into a new house. Next morning, while having breakfast, the wife noticed their neighbour hanging out her washed clothes to dry. She remarked to her husband, “Oh my, this laundry is not clean at all. Our neighbour doesn’t know how to wash clothes. Maybe she needs a better detergent.” The husband looked on and kept quiet.
This happened every morning for a week. As the young couple were having breakfast, the lady next door hung out her laundry. And the wife passed the same comments. “The clothes are still dirty!” “Doesn’t she know how to wash clothes?” “She really needs a different soap!” And the husband sat quietly every day, not saying a thing.
One morning, the wife exclaimed in surprise, “Look, the clothes are nice and clean today! Our neighbour has finally learned how to do her laundry. I wonder who taught her.” Indeed, she was right. The clothes flapping in the breeze looked fresh and unsoiled. And the husband responded, “I got up early and cleaned our windows this morning.”
So it is with life. What we see while watching others depends on the clarity of the window through which we look. So don’t be quick to judge others. Especially if your perspective of life is clouded by jealousy, hate, anger, negativity and unfulfilled desires. Judging a person doesn’t define who they are. It defines you. Wash your window first.
