Chivas Regal in a jazzy new avatar

The first of my Diwali gifts have arrived. And, oh joy, it is a bottle of Scotch. The new Chivas Regal Extra. Aged 13 years. Launched in 2020 and slowly making its way and its presence felt in India. I am not superstitious. I do not believe 13 is an unlucky number. And I like Scotch. So I accepted it gladly. The 13 in this bottle is the number of years that the Chivas Brothers of Speyside in Scotland matured the exciting blend of their many aged whiskies to produce Chivas Regal Extra.

The bottle is squat with a gold cap. The whisky – dark gold, the color of honey, shimmering inside. Like the regular Chivas Regal bottle with a new label. It is the box that presents the popular whisky in a handsome and jazzy new avatar. It tells me that after this blend of whisky was matured in oak casks, it spent additional time in a sherry cask, which has enriched the taste of the blend giving it a new world flavor that is richer and deeper. Almost like an extra Mediterranean touch.

The box further said the whisky smells of vanilla and caramel. It tastes of ripe pears in syrup, crisp almonds, and cinnamon sweets. I can hardly wait for Diwali. The bottle reminds me of a genial former Prime Minister now no more who was notorious for swearing to be a teetotaler and vegetarian but who on his foreign jaunts especially wanted Chivas Regal when consuming Tandoori Jumbo Prawns! After drinking the Chivas Regal Extra, maybe I will give you his name.
