Of dreams and broken promises

Twilight. She arose

to an early

dawn…

4:30 a.m. I awakened a few hours earlier. It was the weekend.

A cool, brisk morning. The moon, pale, dimly lit, lie near

the horizon. Coffee was brewing,

poached eggs, toast, crispy bacon, butter, and strawberry jam.

I sat reading the daily newspaper, only momentarily, referencing

the headlines, a few sentences

past.

It never changes, what has always remained the same.

Your arrival is premature;

unannounced.

has left me clambering for an opening, leaving me in an awkward

situation I would rather not attend

to,

realizing the implications which may or may not arise.

So little of it, the memory found clinging to a tear…

It intrigues me, the remaining remnants of a sentence written of

one’s remembrances. Who could it have

been,

anyone in particular. Is one even allowed to have wondered,

regarding the tale of two lovers?

A never-ending story is written of dreams and broken promises.

Here we have gathered at a call to order. Who are the participants?

Who is the judge and who has retained the prosecuting

attorney?

Are there any witnesses…

Silence, a call to order has been given, who are the miscreants?

Who are the rabble-rousers, the tyrants…

How much further has one

regressed.

Which one among us has betrayed their innocence.?
