It’s a dream for everyone in the middle class to start their own business and live their life to the fullest but achieving our dreams is in our hands. Deepak Sandil is an inspiration for all such aspiring entrepreneurs from the middle class.
Deepak’s story is one of resilience and perseverance. Hailing from a middle-class family, his father’s medical concerns forced him to resign from his job, leaving the family in financial turmoil. But that didn’t stop Deepak from pursuing his dreams. Despite the challenges, he continued to work hard and excel in his studies. His mother worked in the MGNREGA government scheme to support the family and cover their educational expenses. Deepak’s determination paid off, and he graduated with flying colors. Today, he stands as an inspiration to many, proving that with hard work and resilience, anything is possible.
Deepak had to overcome an intensive financial struggle during his childhood. He had to skip a meal everyday to save money for the educational fees. Despite financial constraints, he and his sister managed to get an education through scholarships. With a passion for engineering, Deepak pursued his dreams and got admitted to an engineering college in Himachal Pradesh. However, financial struggles continued as his parents were unable to pay for his engineering fees, and they had to take out an education loan.
With strong determination, Deepak worked hard and graduated in Electronics and Communication Engineering in 2015. However, the burden of the college loan kept him awake at night. To ease his financial struggles, he worked at Luminous Technologies during his summer and winter holidays to raise money and pay his monthly room rent for at least 1-2 months.
In a life with continuous hardship, finally there was a spark and relief,when Deepak was successfully hired as a Biomedical Sales and Service Engineer. To repay his education loan, Deepak worked in several private and corporate industries while also preparing for Himachal Administration Services and Indian Administrative Services. Though unsuccessful, he never gave up on his dreams.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 brought new challenges. Deepak Sandil lost his job, and to pay his monthly EMIs, he did labor work in his village. Despite the challenges, he remained hopeful and shifted his focus to starting his own business.
With limited savings, he invested in a startup with a friend. Though they faced challenges and had insufficient funds to cover their everyday expenses, Deepak’s resilience and determination paid off. By July 21, shipments resumed, and his business began to thrive.
Entrepreneurs like Deepak Sandil play a crucial role in introducing innovative technologies, products, and services that challenge established firms to become more competitive, raising the productivity of firms and economies. By creating jobs and new technologies, entrepreneurs invigorate the economy and promote technology-based economic development.
However, entrepreneurship comes with risks of failure, potentially borne by taxpayers, and layoffs in the short to medium term. Governments must reduce red tape, simplify regulations, and get ready for increased competition’s detrimental effects on established businesses if they hope to attract productive entrepreneurs.
Deepak’s success story highlights the need for governments to support and encourage entrepreneurship as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation. With the right support and a receptive business environment, entrepreneurs like Deepak can thrive, create jobs, and drive economic development.
