“Passion becomes extraordinary when it is combined with patience, creativity, and the courage to begin.”

Many people dream of turning their hobbies into successful businesses, but only a few take the first step. Building a brand requires experimentation, consistency, and the willingness to learn from every success and failure. Shradha Gulati’s story is one such inspiring example of how curiosity evolved into a thriving handmade chocolate business.

From knowing almost nothing about chocolate making to launching ChocoArray, winning industry recognition, and serving prestigious clients, her entrepreneurial journey proves that every successful business starts with a simple idea and relentless dedication.

Discovering an Unexpected Passion

The story of ChocoArray began in March 2016, although my love for chocolates started much earlier.

I have always loved chocolates. During a trip to the United States in 2003, I bought so many chocolates that I had to purchase an extra travel bag just to bring them back home. At that time, I never imagined that one day I would create chocolates myself.

In fact, the first time I saw a chocolate mould, I mistook it for an ice tray. Chocolate making was completely unfamiliar to me. I enjoyed eating chocolates but never believed I could create them from scratch.

Everything changed when curiosity took over.

Falling in Love With the Art of Chocolate Making

One day, a close friend prepared homemade chocolates and invited me to taste them. The flavours, textures, and creativity fascinated me.

That experience inspired me to try making chocolates on my own.

Armed with enthusiasm and very little knowledge, I entered my mother’s kitchen and began experimenting with different ingredients. My first attempt was far from perfect. The kitchen looked as though a storm had passed through it, and the chocolates were average at best.

Instead of feeling discouraged, I became even more determined.

Over the next few months, I experimented tirelessly. Nearly a hundred trials, countless recipe adjustments, and honest feedback from family and friends gradually helped me perfect my recipes.

Every failed batch became another lesson.

Every successful batch strengthened my confidence.

The Support That Made All the Difference

Behind every entrepreneur is someone who quietly believes in their dreams.

For me, that person was my mother.

She became my biggest supporter and strongest promoter. She proudly shared my chocolates with relatives, friends, neighbours, and anyone willing to try them.

Her excitement motivated me to keep improving.

Knowing that someone genuinely believed in my work gave me the confidence to believe in myself.

Turning Passion Into a Business

In April 2016, I officially launched ChocoArray.

Like many small businesses, it began with limited resources but unlimited determination.

Social media, particularly Facebook, became my first marketplace. I regularly shared photographs, customer reviews, and behind-the-scenes moments from my chocolate-making journey.

Gradually, people began placing orders.

Every positive review increased my confidence and encouraged new customers to try ChocoArray chocolates.

What started as a hobby slowly transformed into a growing business.

Growing Through Corporate Opportunities

As demand increased, I started participating in exhibitions and corporate events.

These opportunities introduced ChocoArray to larger audiences and helped me work with respected organisations and businesses.

Receiving corporate orders was a significant milestone because it validated the quality of my products and strengthened my confidence as an entrepreneur.

Each event also taught me valuable lessons about customer service, branding, packaging, and business management.

Industry Recognition That Changed Everything

One of the biggest turning points in my journey came when I participated in a food event judged by renowned chefs, including MasterChef Sanjay Raina and Chef Arun Sahdev.

Competing alongside talented home chefs and bakers was both exciting and intimidating.

To my delight, my Rum and Raisin Dark Chocolate Bonbon received an award.

That recognition was more than a trophy.

It was proof that months of experimentation, dedication, and hard work had been worth every effort.

For the first time, I felt that my passion had earned recognition from industry experts.

Recognition Beyond the Kitchen

As ChocoArray continued to grow, more opportunities followed.

The brand was featured in Suburb Gurgaon Magazine, where my work received appreciation for both creativity and craftsmanship.

I also attended chocolate learning sessions at the Academy of Pastry Arts, where experienced chefs appreciated my chocolates and encouraged me to continue innovating.

Receiving invitations to exclusive dessert tasting sessions and being recognised by ICICI Bank for entrepreneurial courage further strengthened my belief that persistence always finds its reward.

These milestones reminded me that growth comes from continuously learning and embracing every opportunity.

Creating Chocolates With a Unique Identity

One of ChocoArray’s greatest strengths has always been innovation.

Rather than producing ordinary chocolates, I wanted every product to offer something different.

Today, ChocoArray creates unique flavours inspired by both international ingredients and Indian tastes.

From rum and raisins to nuts, cranberries, kiwi, crackle, prunes, paan, and many other creative combinations, every chocolate is handcrafted with attention to detail.

Most importantly, we never use artificial flavouring.

Every chocolate is prepared using quality ingredients, creativity, and plenty of love.

Building Relationships Beyond Business

One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been the relationships built with customers.

Many customers have become regular supporters who eagerly wait for new flavours and festive collections.

Some have even invited me to family celebrations and special occasions, expecting me to arrive with a box of ChocoArray chocolates.

Their appreciation, suggestions, and honest feedback continue to inspire me to improve with every new creation.

For me, customer trust is the sweetest achievement of all.

Lessons From My Entrepreneurial Journey

Looking back, this journey has taught me lessons that extend far beyond chocolate making.

  • Every expert starts as a beginner.
  • Failure is an important part of learning.
  • Customer feedback is one of the greatest teachers.
  • Consistency creates trust.
  • Passion becomes meaningful when supported by discipline and hard work.

Entrepreneurship is not about becoming successful overnight.

It is about becoming a little better every single day.

Final Thoughts

When I first stepped into my mother’s kitchen, I never imagined that those early experiments would one day become a recognised handmade chocolate brand.

Today, ChocoArray is more than a business.

It represents creativity, resilience, learning, and the courage to follow a dream despite uncertainty.

If my journey inspires even one person to pursue their passion or start their own venture, then every challenge I faced has been worthwhile.

Sometimes, the sweetest success begins with a single step—and a little chocolate.

Shradha Gulati – Our storyteller

Shradha Gulati is a working woman with experience of 16.5 years of working in eminent corporate. Travelling has always been her biggest passion in life. She has been to more than 15 countries and plans to cover much more across the globe. Having picked up a flair for writing Shayri from her dad, her first book is publishing soon. She always had a sweet tooth. Still, a couple of years back, she developed a love for experimenting with different kinds of chocolates to develop fillings and flavors which are typically not available in the open market.

It is how ChocoArray was born. She dedicated all the time to the same passion, whatever time she gets from her job during late evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. A friend of hers told Shradha Gulati one day. I always used to think about how Cadbury’s, Hershey’s, and other big chocolate brands reached where they are. After seeing ChocoArray’s progress step by step, I’m getting answers to all my questions.
