I have always been very fascinated by planes. As a small boy, I would quite often stop by and take a position on the dirty passage that ran between a Kabaristan and the western boundary wall of Bombay
Airport to watch the planes landing. The landing would be so low that I could actually see the pilot and the passengers seated at the window of the plane. I had toy models of Indian Airlines Caravelles and Boeing 737S. A lot many times thought of reaching out and touching the underbellies came to my mind as they cleared doubledecker buses on the road and landed smoothly beyond the boundary wall, their engines remonstrating loudly as the pilot applied the brakes.
There is a record for the lowest landing of a Hungarian Wizz Air jet at Skiathos Island’s Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport in Greece. The video shows the dramatic moment of the massive jet which glides
through the waves of the Mediterranean beach, almost grazing tourists’ heads, to clear the airport’s perimeter fence and land safely on the runway. This is the daily sight of hundreds of tourists who
flock to Skiathos to watch the plane landing. I too hope to do it someday. Until then, I must be content watching videos and turning the volume up to give me the feel and fun experience.
