A story worth reading on Time to think out of the box
The moneylender, old and ugly, fancied the merchant’s beautiful daughter. He said he would forgo the merchant’s debt if he could marry the girl. This proposal of the moneylender scares the trader and his daughter.
Moneylender said
The moneylender said he would put a black pebble and a white pebble into an empty bag. The girl had to pick one. He further said if she picked up the black pebble, she would have to become his wife and in return, he will forgive her father’s debts. If she picks the white stones then, she needn’t marry him. Also, the debt of her father will get clear. She knows very well that if she refuses to pick the stone up then her father will have to go to prison.
They both are standing on a pebble-strewn path. The moneylender bent to pick up two pebbles. The girl had sharp eyes and she saw the money lender pick up two black coloured pebbles. The moneylender asked the girl to the stones from the bag.
What should the girl have done? Refuse to take a pebble? Expose the moneylender as a cheat and risk her father. Does this mean he will go to jail? Or should she pick up a black pebble to save her father? From the debts of the moneylender and save him from getting punishment?
It’s Girl’s Time to think Out of the Box
The girl decided to put her hand into the bag and pick out a pebble from it. Without looking at it, she fumbles and let it fall onto the pebble-strewn path. There it goes lost among all the other pebbles. “Oh, how clumsy of me,” she said. It doesn’t matter you can look into the bag, and you will come to know which pebble I picked.
As other pebbles in the bag are black, it is presumed that she has chosen the white pebble. And the moneylender could say nothing. As this will bring out his dishonesty. The girl has been able to change an impossible situation to a possible one.
MORAL OF THE STORY
Most complex problems do have a solution and resolutions! For that sometimes we have to go and think out of the box when searching for a good solution.
