In the 1992 movie ‘Scent of a Woman’ for which he won an Oscar, a blind Army veteran played by Al Pacino invites a young woman sitting alone at a buzzing New York restaurant to dance. She responds: “I can’t, because my fiancé will be arriving any minute now.” To which, undeterred, he tells her, “Some people live a lifetime in a minute.” And leads her to the dance floor where they dance one of the most amazing Tangos seen on screen.
This sequence contains a beautiful message. Some people live by running after time, but they don’t manage to reach it even when they run in a hurry. Others, only look to the future, forgetting they have to live in the present, the only time that really exists. Truth is, everyone has time equally; no one has more or less than 24 hours a day. The difference lies in what we each do with this time. John Lennon said in ‘Beautiful Boy’, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.” So, seize every moment. And learn to enjoy Life.
