I know what is happening in this country, and yet I don’t. I watch the images on television and social media with a sense of unease. Student life seems, almost overnight, to have become intertwined with political awakening, campus unrest and public agitation. For many young people, college is no longer just about lectures, examinations and degrees. It has also become a place where questions are being asked about examination irregularities, question paper leaks, delays, caste divisions and what many perceive to be a lack of accountability in the education system.

My heart goes out to the students. But it goes out even more to their parents, who struggle to send their children to college in the hope of giving them a better future. They do so expecting an education, not prolonged demonstrations, hunger strikes, candlelight vigils or confrontations with the police that end in lathi charges, tear gas and arrests.

Perhaps every generation remembers its youth a little more fondly than it really was. But at least in my own student days, life felt simpler. We worried about attending lectures, making friends, playing sport, taking part in extracurricular activities, preparing for examinations and looking forward to the holidays. Politics rarely entered our classrooms, and I doubt many of us could even have named the education minister of the day.

Today, many students know exactly who occupies that office. Whether by choice or by circumstance, education has become political in ways my generation never imagined. As someone who has spent a lifetime in journalism, I can only hope that our classrooms once again become places where the loudest sounds are those of curiosity, debate, discovery and learning. Not confrontation. Because the future of a nation is built not only in its legislatures and courtrooms, but first and foremost in its schools and colleges. And the classrooms we once knew.

The above thoughts/content has been proudly copied from the wall of Sir Mark Manuel. Being interviewing almost every role model of this country and going stronger each day. Mark Manuel is a respected Mumbai editor, writer, and columnist.

His interviews have featured in several leading media houses. They include the Hindustan Times, Huffington Post, BBC, and Network 18. It is a crime thriller that is perhaps the country’s first police procedural. He began his career covering crime. And in a tribute to his experience and knowledge of this beat.

Several distinguished officers of the Mumbai Police and its Crime Branch collaborated with him to make this book possible. Amitabh Bachchan wrote the forward in a statement of friendship for Mark Manuel and admiration for his work.
